About me
This website is created with the specific purpose of supporting my membership on www.housecarers.com
Here, on this extremely simple and low budget website I therefore want to give you a view of who I am, as a potential tenant or house/pet-sitter for your home in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
I've recently started a management job at CBU and need a place to stay within reasonably easy reach of campus.
I'm a professional with many years' experience in working in places as diverse as Canada, many African countries, India and China. I'm delighted to have been given the opportunity to come and live in Cape Breton- if things work out for me I would like to buy a piece of land with some waterfrontage (lake water, but warmer than the Bras d'Or), but for now, I need a nice comfortable quiet place to stay.
I've been a home owner for many years but right now need to rent until I know whether Cape Breton likes me as much as I like it. It means I'm an excellent tenant - good with gardening, basic home care and maintenance, great neighbor, steady income so reliable rent payer, etc.
I'm between pets, so unless I find a place that allows pets and then I find the right kind of dog/cat I won't be keeping pets. However, if you're going away for an extended period and want me to look after your home and pets, we can certainly talk.

The top one is me, taken at Seabright, Nova Scotia, near Peggy's Cove, July 2008.
The bottom one is of my home in Johannesburg, South Africa, late afternoon, in the height of summer after a late afternoon thunderstorm, as the sun was setting, January 2009.
Behind the Scenes of My Home Page
On my next page I have my resume.
Other 'behind the scenes' stuff to tell is that I am a great wilderness lover - it is one of the things that kept me in Africa for so long. To me the wilderness is about the trees, the animals, birds, lichens, bugs (well, except maybe mosquitoes and deer flies - I'm really not too crazy about those). It is also what's always brought me back to Canada - the natural beauty of the place.
About my family: I have a son in New York and he has three sons. I have a son in San Rafael (outside San Francisco) and he has a son who lives in Kelowna. I have an ex-husband/best friend who lives in Vancouver. And sisters and cousins in South Africa. A nephew in Tasmania and a niece in Ireland, and my greatest friends live in Big Pond and Halifax.I love swimming, hiking, horse-riding, mountain biking and used to love white water rafting but I may have lost my nerve. I ski and skate like an immigrant - I'm a naturalised Canadian - moved to Canada in 1971 first time, became a citizen around 1974. I love playing with my digital camera/video player and Windows Moviemaker (check out my efforts on YouTube - about the Lascaux cave art and about megafauna - the human-caused extinction of the large mammals - both under the name Baz Edmeades (because he's the author, I was just the camera person and producer) I'm also a great movie fan, read a fair bit of fiction and subject matter related to my work - favourites are The Inner Game of Work by Timothy Gallwey and The Art of Possibility by Rosamund Stone Zander and Benjamin Zander. Am pretty socialable and am very comfortable with my own company too.
And, most recently, I broke my ankle on some fine Cape Breton ice and experienced the Regional Hospital Enough Said.
